The German lifeguard association identified adults above the age of 60 to be one of the main groups with high drowning rates among swimmers in supervised swimming lakes in Germany (Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft e.V., 2017). The problem that leads to drowning in supervised swimming lakes is often the lack of visibility in the water, obscuring lifeguards vision under the water surface and preventing rescue divers from finding people who have drowned.
Our solution aims at reducing the time taken to recognize someone in need of help, locating them and providing aid. This comes in the form of a wristband worn by swimmers.
