In recent years, while platforms like YouTube have emerged as potentially constructive educational aids for students, there has been a discernible escalation in the challenges of distraction and diminishing learning efficacy with such online media. Moreover, despite the substantial surge in online engagement via social media, the genuine, purposeful interaction that previously catalyzed learning and individual advancement appears conspicuously absent. The section below will discuss the two main issues regarding this matter, average concentration and social interaction. Average concentration: With the dawn of social media, the average attention span has been at an all-time low. Students, and more generally people have trouble concentrating on specific tasks. This results in a negative impact on academic and career- performance. Moreover, social media has an addictive effect which makes it hard for students to overcome. Social interaction: Similarly to the average concentration, genuine social interaction has been steadily decreasing. Often, students are less likely to communicate in real life and convene. Especially after COVID-19, the desire for social interaction has been at an all-time high.
Our team aspires to create a social media application to facilitate studying and learning. Students will be able to share their progress, planning, and study material. Moreover, students will be able to connect and form study groups, where students can study together online or offline. The central system tying everything together will be an integrated leveling system, bound to each individual student and their study groups. By leveling up, a student will be able to earn badges and rewards to display on their account. Gamifying the learning process. Finally, the app can be deployed for educational institutions and companies to facilitate social cohesion between peers in the learning process.
