Mochi
Students can often feel stressed due to deadlines, exams and obligations. This can have adverse health effects, like burnout and depression. Often, the root causes are inadequate time management and lack of motivation.
A time-management and stress-prevention tool made fun and interactive through an adorable personal assistant called Mochi. Mochi suggests taking break sessions based on how students spend their time (e.g., 1 hour of studying would mean Mochi suggests taking a 10-minute break). These recommendations are based on research. On the opposite side, Mochi offers time-management support (e.g., to-do lists, timers, and phone blockers) to keep students focused. Moreover, students can hold a conversation with Mochi, where they can find out fun stress-relief activities. To increase engagement, the tool includes gamification features. Mochi will "grow" based on students' performance. For example, users can feed Mochi only after they have completed their goals. This results in a positive feedback loop, which keeps students motivated. Furthermore, the tool allows students to connect with friends and check each other's time management. On the opposite side, suggesting breaks ensures that students do not go overboard with too much work. The aim is to provide the best possible support to help students improve their well-being. Mochi will exist as a stand-alone device and plans for a more accessible phone app version will allow us to give the most effective and available solutions to students and those who suffer from stress worldwide.
