A plethora of scientific knowledge is scattered all over the internet. In traditional research, methods for retrieving scientific information involve back/forward citation studies and online web searches on platforms like Wikipedia, Google, ResearchGate, PubMed, and various online forums. However, these are manual and ineffective approaches that are limited to keyword-based information retrieval and lack contextual linking. The scientific knowledge manually and solely gathered via these platforms often suffers from human inefficiency in analyzing information and staying updated with developments across various fields. This weaker literature study results in an even bigger problem of “reinventing the wheel” or “scientific noise”. In recent times, there have been some advancements in the use of AI, however, the capabilities of such AI platforms are fairly limited. In a nutshell, the current research process is prone to lower productivity, inefficiency, lack of interdisciplinary research, and limited collaboration opportunities.

Goddard - Discovery has developed an AI-enabled platform, named “Inventia AI”, that understands the knowledge of multiple fields and can assist researchers in their day-to-day academic activities. The goal is to automate the process of literature review and collaboration across various scientific disciplines using AI, thus optimizing the time required for research and development. Being a computational algorithm, the software can facilitate users by retrieving and organizing relevant scientific knowledge in one place; reading, inferring, and summarizing thousands of articles in the blink of an eye; linking relevant information together; visualizing knowledge graphs and demographic maps; facilitating cross-disciplinary scientific hypotheses; extracting key entities such as methods and tasks being used; and enabling real-time knowledge exchange among users.
